Five recent Marshfield graduates suited up for this year's annual Sertoma Grin Iron Classic all-star football game at JFK stadium in Springfield, getting the opportunity to play together one more time under Marshfield head varsity football coach Cody Bull, who led the West team.

Quarterback Brock Utecht, receiver Austin Porter, tight end Truett Gardner, offensive lineman Keegan O’Dell, and defensive end Brandon Pogue all took the field together beside players from 17 other area schools for the West, battling it out with a similar collection of athletes in the East in the 18th-annual iteration of the all-star event for Ronald McDonald House charities.

Coach Bull, alongside a pack of Marshfield assistant coaches, took charge of the all-star squad, but he couldn’t quite pull out a victory in the 47-29 clash. His West squad got buried early by Springfield Catholic quarterback Tyson Riley, but began to climb out of the 26-0 in the middle of the second quarter, aided by Utecht’s 94 yards and two touchdowns. By the end of the third, the West was within two scores of victory with the score at 29-40, but the final frame saw their offense stall out while the East added on to seal it.

This year’s game benefited the Tooth Truck, which helps provide dental treatment and hygiene education for local children in need.
