On Saturday, November 4, the Marshfield High School Choir took 17 students to perform with the South Central Missouri Music Educators Association All-District Honor Choirs held at Evangel University in Springfield. They, along with other honor students from all over the district, rehearsed in the morning with world-class guest clinicians and, in the afternoon, performed a concert showcasing their skills. For four consecutive years, the Marshfield High School Choral program has broken school records for those accepted into this honor choir, setting the new record at 17. "The Mighty McKraken" visits Strafford
Students at Strafford Elementary sailed the seas and learned some important lessons as Author Isaiah "Izzy B" Basye visited the school on Nov. 8. He and illustrator Ben Askew were there talking about their latest book, "The Mighty McKraken." This fun story introduces kids to concepts such as please and thank you, sharing, and treating others with respect. more

There were tears of joy and cries of cheer during Niangua's assembly on Nov. 10 as one soldier surprised his family after being deployed in Africa for 10 months. A Veterans Day Homecoming
On Friday, Nov. 10, Niangua school held its Veterans Day Assembly. The assembly included programming to honor veterans and educate the public about the ultimate sacrifice service men and women make. However, students, teachers, and community members in the crowd were in for an extra special surprise. more

Schools show respect for veterans
Even though Veterans Day fell on a Saturday this year, that did not stop local schools from honoring those alive and passed. Conway schools held an assembly on Nov. 9, with all students k-12 attending. Other schools around Webster County, including Marshfield, Logan-Rogersville, Strafford, Niangua, and Fordland, held assemblies on Nov. 10. Many drew large crowds as guests and vets attended. The assemblies included speeches, music, and meals, with each school honoring those who answered the call to serve. more

During the lunch period on Oct. 24, the seniors of Marshfield High School were presented with letters from the Vu Scholarship Program, which showed them the potential scholarships they qualified for. On Oct. 9, the Marshfield School District hosted a networking event. The event was attended by 28 local businesses and people of interest, including City Administrator Sam Rost and Parks Director Marc Baker, who were there having conversations with teachers and building connections between the school and the community. Community connections made at school networking event
On Monday, Oct. 9, the Marshfield R-1 School District hosted a networking event in the high school gym, encouraging a connection between the school and local businesses. 28 local businesses and people of interest attended the event and had conversations with teachers to promote community partnerships within the district. more
