With a class celebrating its 50th anniversary, the Marshfield Reunion Fest committee decided to do something special for this Friday's Reunion Fest event in Marshfield.

Eight Marshfield students who lost their lives in the Vietnam War will be remembered during the eighth-annual  Reunion Fest event at the Marshfield Community Center. These men were Marshfield High School graduates from the classes of 1951, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965 and 1966.

"This is the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1969," said Lyndall Fraker, founder of Reunion Fest. "Fiftieth anniversaries are pretty special. The Class of 1969 remembers those eight men we will be honoring. They had classes with them and talked to them. We just wanted to do something to remember them."

The eight being recognized are William R. Gower (MHS Class of 1951), David M. Knight (MHS Class of 1961), Jack L. Bagley (MHS Class of 1963), Rex W. Highfill (MHS Class of 1964), Alan J. Ruddell (MHS Class of 1964), Clyde C. Owen (MHS Class of 1965), Jerry L. Petty (MHS Class of 1965) and John M. Hansen (MHS Class of 1966).

"We got in contact with some of the families and invited them to the event," said Fraker. "We will recognize them and present a desk plaque to them."

According to Fraker, there is a monument outside the Webster County Courthouse recognizing all of the Webster County veterans who served in wars. There is also a plaque inside the Webster County Courthouse with the names of those who have served. Among the names are the eight MHS graduates who lost their lives in Vietnam.

"I believe there are about 15 people total from Webster County on that monument," said Fraker. "For this event, we will be honoring those eight Marshfield High School graduates in Vietnam. It took a lot of research to get the information about them, but Linda Blazer with the Webster County Historical Society and Stan Whitehurst with the Webster County Courthouse helped us out."

In addition to the ceremony, Reunion Fest will feature live music from several bands, along with an alumni reception from 3 to 5 p.m. in the gym. This year's Outstanding MHS Alumni recipient will also be recognized.

Reunion Fest will start at 3 p.m. at the Marshfield Community Center. The event will honor the classes of 1944, 1949, 1954, 1959, 1964, 1969, 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014.
