The first-ever LR’s Got Talent Show will shine a spotlight on Logan-Rogersville students and faculty Saturday, Feb. 24, at the Logan-Rogersville High School auditorium, located on Highway 125, just north of Highway 60.

A total of 25 students will perform in the talent show, which was started by the Logan-Rogersville Band Boosters as a way to benefit the school’s band department. According to Steve Palen, band director at LRHS, all proceeds from the talent show will be used to purchase new uniforms, new instruments and help with general equipment upkeep.

“We talked about fundraising ideas at one of our booster meetings,” said Palen. “We thought a talent show would be a great way to highlight the students’ talents at Logan-Rogersville, but also something that will benefit the community. Talent shows are fun and most schools do not do them anymore, so we thought it would be a good idea.”

Five students from each school building will compete in the talent show, according to Palen, who added their performances can be no more than three-minutes. Judges are: Kristine Harris, a former band director at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Suzanne McGowen, who teaches music in Ozark, and Tori Turner, a dance teacher in Springfield who also served as captain of the Sugar Bears Dance Team at Missouri State University for four years. Prizes will be awarded for first place ($100), second place ($50) and third place ($25) winners in each age division. Rogersville Mayor Jack Cole will announce the winners at the end of the event. In addition, there will be a silent auction, where the audience can bid on various items before the show or during intermission.

“There is going to be a variety of acts in the show,” said Palen. “The students are really excited about it. We will also have performances from the Logan-Rogersville School faculty during the second intermission.”

The show will start at 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and children over 5 years of age; free for children 5 and under. The doors will open at 4 p.m., with concessions available prior and during the talent show.
