The community is rallying around a local family as they grieve the loss of three children to a house fire early Monday, Nov. 13. Firefighters on scene reported that the adults at the house made it out to safety as crews tried to get into the burning home in the 1600 block of Conklin Road, but the flames were too strong and the house was reported as a complete loss.  more
The last surviving witness to Germany’s surrender in World War II, Mr. Luciano “Louis” Charles Graziano, has visited Webster County to share his story with those in attendance of the Annual Missouri Cherry Blossom Festival in Marshfield. He has participated in the festival numerous times and has witnessed one of the most pivotal moments in our nation’s history. Picture it: Halloween, 1968. At the tender age of 17, with the stroke of a pen, Larry Perkins, a rural Missouri farm kid, enlists in the United States Army. After training at Fort Leonard Wood, Perkins is sent to Germany to build bridges, and it doesn't take his commanding officers long to notice the passion for serving our country that lies deep within this young man's heart. The Korean War, which ended with an armistice on July 27, 1953, is sometimes referred to as the "forgotten war" or a "police action" because it was overshadowed by World War II several years earlier, and Congress never declared war on North Korea. Despite being “forgotten,” nearly 7 million American men and women served from June 1950 to January 1955. Just after he turned 21 in June of 1953, Robert McDonald, of Strafford, was drafted to serve our country.  more

The sun was shining at the Bass Pro Shops headquarters in Springfield Monday as a line formed over an hour ahead of the store opening. Fans arrived as early as 6:30 a.m. for a chance to see country superstar Garth Brooks. The surprise appearance marked the early release of his new studio album “Time Traveler,” which is exclusively sold at Bass Pro Shops as a part of a CD box set. more
OCC Shoeboxes is a project of Samaritan's Purse that started back in the 1990s that delivers shoeboxes filled with toys, hygiene items, and school supplies to children around the world. The project provides churches and ministries with evangelism and discipleship opportunities to reach children with the Gospel.  more

Cooler weather and hunting season can mean fun for all ages. This weekend wrapped up the early youth portion of deer season. Several local young hunters ages 6 to 15 participated in the age-old tradition. They did not fail to impress, as preliminary data from the Missouri of Conservation shows 11,219 deer were harvested statewide, with 141 coming from Webster County. more
As the leaves fall across Missouri, hunters from all over will participate in deer and turkey seasons. Everyone, young and old, hunting or not, can enjoy the autumn season. With that in mind, the Missouri Department of Conservation has released a statement and tips reminding folks to be safe. more

Nov. 5 will mark the end of daylight savings for 2023. Whatever happened to the U.S. Government putting a stop to the back and forth of the clock? In March last year, the U.S. unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act of 2021 (S.623). The bill would make Daylight Saving Time permanent throughout the U.S., starting Nov. 5, 2023, with the exception of states like Arizona and Hawaii, which do not observe Daylight Savings. more
