A small crowd gathered in a field just outside of the Mercy Clinic off Spur Drive and Highway OO on Thursday, Jan. 4, for the official groundbreaking ceremony of Jordan's Place. The brisk afternoon did not affect the positivity of the ceremony, which was kicked off with an opening speech by Danielle Boggs, Webster County Public Administrator and Board Secretary for both WC CapeAbilities and WC Partners. more
A groundbreaking was held on Thursday, Jan. 4 at the future location of a housing complex for adults in the Webster County community with disabilities. Jordan’s Place is a housing project that non-profit WC CapeAbilities, along with the Webster County SB 40 board, has worked tirelessly to bring to Webster County. WC CapeAbilities was formed to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Webster County. The SB 40 board was created by Senate Bill 40. Each person in Webster County pays a small tax that goes specifically toward individuals with developmental disabilities due to this bill. Two weeks ago, the SB 40 board sold and transferred a piece of property they owned on West Washington Street, which put the plan for a housing complex in motion.  more

In late October 2023, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services began investigating the cause of lead poisoning in four children who had high amounts of lead in their blood systems. The departments' investigations found that WanaBana apple cinnamon fruit puree pouches contained high amounts of lead. more

Dale P. Lang, of Elkland, appeared in court on Dec. 21 before Judge Hendrickson for sentencing after a jury found him guilty Aug. 22 of two felony counts of first-degree statutory sodomy following a two-day trial and deliberation. more

For the last three years, local Rotarians have joined forces and pulled from their own personal funds to provide Christmas gifts to strangers in our community. Just after Thanksgiving, a group from the Marshfield Rotary Club got together and had a white elephant sale, where they raised right at $2,400 towards their goal to make Christmas a bit brighter for a few local families.  more

While the firearms portion of turkey and deer season has ended for the year and alternative methods continuing until Jan. 2 and archery continuing through Jan. 15, Missouri hunters will have to wait until April before they can start drawing their bows and loading their rifles. During a meeting on Dec. 8, the Missouri Conservation Commission approved the hunting dates for 2024-2025. more

Missouri Farm Bureau members returned to their annual meeting December 2-5 at the Lake of the Ozarks. The 109 th meeting theme, Guided by Tradition, focused on the organization’s strong traditions in leadership and policy development as it paves a path for the future of agriculture. Farm Bureau leaders’ main responsibility at the meeting is to discuss and approve Farm Bureau legislative policies for 2024. more
Philip Cotrone will appear in court for a hearing on Jan. 2 with Judge O’Brien Hendrickson presiding over the case. The Mansfield resident has been charged with a Class D felony of Second Degree Burglary, Class E felony of First Degree Stalking, Class E felony of First Degree Harassment, and Class B Misdemeanor of Making a False Report. The charges come after an investigation that occurred earlier this year. more
