On Friday, Nov. 10, Niangua school held its Veterans Day Assembly. The assembly included programming to honor veterans and educate the public about the ultimate sacrifice service men and women make. Deer season is on full blast as the opening firearms portion was last weekend, Nov. 11 and 12. According to the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC), preliminary data shows deer hunters statewide harvested 99,913 deer, with Webster County gathering 1098 of them. more
With Veteran’s Day falling on a Saturday, many schools and businesses honored and celebrated their service early. Such was the case at Webster County Nursing Home District, also known as Webco, with the collaboration of Good Shepard and Three Rivers Hospice, which held a ceremony honoring the residents who answered the call to serve. more
Even though Veterans Day fell on a Saturday this year, that did not stop local schools from honoring those alive and passed. Conway schools held an assembly on Nov. 9, with all students k-12 attending. Other schools around Webster County, including Marshfield, Logan-Rogersville, Strafford, Niangua, and Fordland, held assemblies on Nov. 10. Many drew large crowds as guests and vets attended. The assemblies included speeches, music, and meals, with each school honoring those who answered the call to serve. more
Picture it: Halloween, 1968. At the tender age of 17, with the stroke of a pen, Larry Perkins, a rural Missouri farm kid, enlists in the United States Army. After training at Fort Leonard Wood, Perkins is sent to Germany to build bridges, and it doesn't take his commanding officers long to notice the passion for serving our country that lies deep within this young man's heart.
