On Sunday we welcomed the Rev. Andrew Bartholomew as guest minister. We were also pleased to welcome his wife Jennifer and their four young children.
Rev. Bartholomew began his sermon with the Beach Boys song “Fun! Fun! Fun!” The girl in the song didn’t go where she had told her father she was going. Instead, she raced her car and had fun, fun, fun with encouragers urging her on until her father took away her T-Bird.
Sin is a slave driver trying to say he has our best interests at heart. Everyone has been held captive with the law (the written Word) as our guardian until Christ came and set us free through his death and resurrection. In Christ Jesus, we are all sons and, therefore, heirs. We are all equal: Jews, gentiles, men, women, slaves, masters. Being a child under guardianship was no different than a slave under a master; however, God has always seen us as his children. God sent Jesus to end the guardianship so that we are now free, because Jesus’ death and resurrection made us truly, and completely, sons of God along with him. What a blessing!
We ended the service singing “I’ve Got the Joy.”
As usual, the church will be open during the July 4 parade. We invite you to drop in for cookies, beverages and restroom facilities.
May God’s love surround us throughout the week as we treat others as we wish to be treated. God’s blessings on each of you!
