Posted

July 18, 2023 – Sparta, MO – The gripping new WWII drama, REVEILLE, is set to captivate audiences on Friday, August 4th when it releases On Demand via Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, Charter/Spectrum, and others. Written and directed by Michael Akkerman, the film was shot entirely in the scenic countryside of Sparta, Missouri, which served as the perfect landscape for the caves and battlefields used in the striking cinematography by Cooper Shine. REVEILLE is produced by Myra Miller PhD of Footsteps Researchers (St. Louis), Bernd Wittneben and Jorg Rochlizter of Film Farm

Iowa, and Mike Burch of Mike's Militaria.

Inspired by true events, REVEILLE captures a historically accurate depiction of WWII. In conjunction with Myra Miller, who also served as location scout, Michael Akkerman used archival documents and interviewed family members of soldiers who had survived the second world war. Resulting in a riveting drama that takes audiences on a visceral journey where nationality and allegiance blur and the rules of war are tested like never before.

“Having personally traveled the terrain of Italy where the story takes place, I knew the Ozarks limestone caverns and farmland would be a good match for Michael’s script,” shared Miller, who has roots in Springfield. “The breathtaking landscapes of Sparta served as the perfect backdrop for the film's emotional narrative.”

Kathryn Vicat, a native of Strafford, assisted Miller on several scouting trips until they found a perfect farm with an astonishingly similar cave to one used by the WW2 soldiers near Venafro, Italy. The pair also secured a local mansion to house the entire cast and crew while using it as the base of operations for production, catering services, cast/crew meetings, costume/equipment storage, and script rehearsals.

“Thanks to the incredible efforts of the local Ozarks community the film seamlessly transports viewers into the heart of an important era,” says Burch. “The actors raved about the family-style cooking and praised the producers for creating such a wonderful, safe, and cohesive environment for the movie shoot.”

REVEILLE takes place in 1943 when an American squad engages in a skirmish with German soldiers along the Winter Line in central Italy. As artillery shells begin to rain down, the Americans must honor the rules of war and protect their wounded prisoners. Huddled together in a cave and made to see the enemy as human, the soldiers wrestle with unimaginable moral questions that lie outside the boundaries of nationality and allegiance. Buffalo 8 is set to release REVEILLE On Demand beginning Friday, August

4th.
