WCSO now accepting applications for Cadet Program

Posted

The Webster County Sheriff's Office has announced the start of its Cadet Program for those ages 15-18. According to Sheriff Roye Cole, the program is a volunteer operational unit designed to prepare the cadets for a career in law enforcement while supplementing the resources of the Webster County Sheriff’s Office.

“The main purpose is to give the youth of our community the opportunity to learn and grow as citizen leaders and let them explore the opportunities that the law enforcement field can offer them,” said Sheriff Cole. “It’s a great way for them to understand their own strengths, network and see how they can help serve their community today and in the future… it’s just all-around a good opportunity focused around community service and leadership.”

Areas of training include an intro to law enforcement, agency standards and procedures, constitutional law, report writing, firearms safety, crime scene investigation, first aid, arrest/jail procedures, civil process, courtroom testimony and other miscellaneous topics. Cadets will be required to do at least two 10-hour shifts with one of the following: Patrol Division, Jail Division, Bailiff/ Court Security Division or the Civil Process Division. Cadets will also participate and serve in at least one community event/project before cadet graduation.

The Cadet Academy is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks and the entire Cadet Program will last for a few months following Academy graduation. Cadets will have the opportunity to re-apply and advance with the program annually.

Qualifying applicants for the Cadet Program must:
