Show-Me Jobs in Marshfield

Posted

June 8 was a wonderful day full of opportunity! Located at the Webster Electric Cooperative at 120 Vivian St, a job fair featuring 11 different companies was held. Attending the event included Marshfield R-1 schools, AGCI/Armstrong and Tyler Pipe just to name a few. The event was organized in collaboration with The Missouri Job Center, GRO Marshfield, and Tyler Pipe & Coupling.

Cynthia Collins, a Business Services Specialist for Missouri Job Center, works with numerous communities, assisting each county as needed. There was a particular need in Marshfield according to Collins.

Micayla Helms, the Human Resource Manager for Tyler Pipe & Coupling mentioned that in the past she “usually searches for candidates in Springfield'', but with the company growing rapidly, it needed more workers. Helms knew she needed to cast a wider net. “I thought Marshfield would be a good option for us as we’re local and it’s our hometown.”

Duane Lavery, President/CEO of GRO Marshfield added “ A lot of these businesses have done these job fairs in Springfield, but not Marshfield. Imagine she’s (Helms) in Springfield. Most people are weighing their options and thinking ‘do I really want to drive to Marshfield?’ Helms reached out to me and asked ‘could we have a hiring event here’?”

Helm’s hope manifested with the help of GRO and The Missouri Job Center.

Helms further explained “I know some people from Springfield don’t want to drive to Marshfield and the other way around. So why not have a job fair in our hometown?” Other businesses echoed the same thoughts as Helms, hopeful of the potential group of candidates.

One job seeker mentioned that rising costs were a major factor when looking for a job. A local job has the potential to not only save money, but has the promise of a short commute. With the event being close to home it certainly did save money and time for those who attended.

The companies in attendance include: ABEC, Amprod Holdings, AGCI/Armstrong, Label Solutions, Marshfield R-1 Schools, MKB Company, Tyler Pipe & Coupling, and Arc of the Ozarks.
