Posted

Samuel D. Barnett appeared in Webster County on June 27 for his sentence after committing a Class B felony of sexual abuse in the first degree. Barnett is charged with subjecting a female child living in his home to perform sexual deviation with more than one person including Barnett himself. The acts started when the victim was 12.

After receiving a report from Springfield law enforcement, Seymour Police had enough probable cause to arrest Barnett back in January of 2020.
Before appearing in Webster County court, Barnett was already serving time after his trial in Wright County.

Barnett pleads guilty to 2 counts of sexual abuse 1st degree. In Wright County, Judge Carter sentenced Barnett to seven years in jail. After being released Barnett will have to register as a sex offender and be under surveillance for the rest of his life.

In Webster County, Barnett is charged with a Class B felony. The prosecution asked the court to add 13 years to Barnett’s current seven years of jail time. The defense argued the sentence from Wright County was more than enough. Judge David T. Tunnell ruled in favor of the prosecution and sentenced Barnett to an additional 13 years to be served consecutively with his Wright County sentence.

Barnett will serve a total of 20 years behind bars.
