Roundup replaces freezer for Niangua

Posted

This summer has been one of the hottest summers in the books. With temperatures reaching over 100 degrees for days on end, many people prayed the power would stay on and their appliances could keep up.

For the Niangua FACS department, their worst nightmare came true. The freezer that holds the food for the classroom and the FACS club fundraisers went out costing the organization over $700 in lost food. Angelia Kochs, FACS teacher and club sponsor reached out to Niangua TLC for help.

“She contacted us and said ‘do you guys think that you could buy me a new freezer’. So we did some research…I found one at Lowes. I went and bought it then applied at Webster Electric hoping we would get it,” explained Judy Aswad, co-president of the Niangua TLC. “They were so generous. They paid for the freezer and a five year warranty on anything that goes wrong and all service calls.”

Niangua TLC is well known throughout the Niangua Schools system for their continued efforts to make sure the students in the district are taken care of. “Our main focus is to give to the students of Niangua schools the opportunity to be able to learn in a comfortable environment; without worrying about clothing, food, expenses that come up that their parents can’t afford…” explained Aswad of what the Niangua TLC program does.

“Niangua TLC kind of just fell apart for a while. Everybody was busy,” shared Aswad, but despite the low numbers Aswad and Huitink aren’t slowing down, the pair are preparing for the new school year with a planning meeting to set goals. “One of the things we want to make absolutely certain we have is that we have money ready to go should any need come up,” expressed Aswad.

“I’m a retired school teacher that grew up in a teeny tiny town like Niangua and I see so much potential there,” reflected Aswad.

If you are a member of the Niangua school district and want to be involved with the Niangua TLC reach out to Judy Aswad or Chelynn Huitink on Facebook. If you would like to make a donation to Niangua TLC please contact the Niangua Schools.
