Reunion Fest rocks on despite weather

Posted

The 13th annual Reunion Fest went off without a hitch on Saturday, June 29; despite incoming storms moving the event inside the Marshfield Community Center. Many appreciated the air conditioned gymnasium and celebrating the all-class reunion inside the building that used to be the Marshfield High School.

“Our sound technician, Andy Moore, made the decision pretty early on and it was a great move because the storm started rolling in right around 7 p.m.,” said Lyndall Fraker. “For one, it was extremely hot and humid, but it would have been chaos with the storm. I think everyone really enjoyed the move inside the gym and we had a great time a this year’s event.”

Local bands entertained alumni and their families from the gym’s stage, a surprise Outstanding Alumni of the Year was presented to Marshfield’s Darin Cleir, and fun was had by all in attendance. Local bands The Jetz, White Oak Revival, Belle Ford and The Dirty Saints all performed during the event.

Reunion Fest began when Lyndall Fraker and the class of 1977 were planning their 35th reunion. Other graduating classes wanted to join in for convenience, and this “reunion festival” took off. Now, all graduating classes, and even current students, can gather at the Marshfield Community Center and Reunion Field to celebrate, eat, and enjoy live music.

This year, the Class of ’74 had their 50th reunion in the Depot building and according to attendees, it was the largest class gathering many had ever seen. There were upwards of 100 people in the building with 43 class members attending, along with their spouses, guests and folks visiting throughout the day from other classes.

“We’ve already had a commitment from the Class of ’75 to do their 50th reunion next year at the festival so we’re excited about that and we’re just going to keep on keeping on,” Fraker said. “We’ve been really happy with the last two years since COVID and we’ll keep offering this event as long as people want to come out and celebrate.”

Next year’s Reunion Fest will take place on July 5th, in line with Marshfield’s Independence Day celebrations, as this allows many traveling from out of town to attend where they otherwise wouldn’t be able to. For more information, visit Marshfield Reunion Fest on Facebook.
