Pink & White tournament returns to the Springfield area

Posted

The Pink and White Lady Basketball has made its way back to the schedule this holiday season. Starting on Monday, Dec. 27 three Webster County teams, Strafford, Rogersville and Marshfield, will compete for the title.

This year the brackets will return to normal play instead of using the 2020 bracket which aided in slowing the spread of Covid-19. Last year, the four different regions had to utilize gyms throughout the Springfield Public Schools to play the tournament. This year the tournament is back to being hosted in two divisions and all of the games will be held at the Drury University campus.

STRAFFORD

Currently sitting at a 6-1 record, the Strafford Lady Indians are prepping for the holiday tournament. The Lady Indians will being play on Monday, Dec. 27, in the O’Riley Family Event Center competing against none other than Webster County opponent, Logan-Rogersville.

“The tradition of the holiday tournament in the Ozark’s is an important thing,” stated Strafford varsity coach Dustin Larsen. “Like all teams we want to be at our best and represent our school and our program.”

Larsen explained that the team currently has one starter out and some members are fighting sicknesses so while the games are important the teams health is a priority when prepping.

“We are just going to take it one game at a time,” Larsen said. “For the next week our focus is just going to be on getting better in preparation for Rogersville. We just have to chip away but that first game is our main focus. The girls just need to be there and be present to give it their bests.”

With a challenging field ahead of them Lady Indians will strive to give their best performance during the tournament.

ROGERSVILLE

Coming off a pair of wins last season, the Lady Wildcats are set to return to the Pink & White tournament.

The Wildcats are currently seated in the White Division where the first game of the completion will be played against Strafford.

The Lady Wildcats fell to the Lady Indians on Monday, Dec. 20, during at home match, 57-42. Starting slow in the first half, the Lady Wildcats picked up the pace to slowly make a comeback scoring 13 points in the third and 16 points in the fourth. While the girls started scoring, there was just not enough time to generate the win.

The Lady Wildcats will come out on Monday, Dec. 27, at the O’Riley Family Event Center to take on Strafford, with the intent of a win, starting at 2:00pm.

MARSHFIELD

Marshfield Lady Jays made a quick and unfortunate exit at the Pink & White tournament during the 2020 year with an uneven effort in the two games played.

With the ultimate goal of playing four days at the Pink & White, the team will head to the tournament this year with the full intent of playing to stay.

The Lady Jays join Rogersville and Strafford in the White Division. In the fourth seed the team will take on El Darado Springs, which they have yet to play, in the O’Riley Family Event Center with the late game at 9:00 p.m.
