Posted

The Niangua Cardinals celebrated their Homecoming on Friday, Dec. 8 with a blowout win against the Hurley Tigers.

“Homecoming is always a big night,” said head coach Kalem Copling. “We started off slow but picked it up to get the win. I’m proud of how our boys played.”

Niangua started the first quarter strong, scoring 14 points to the Tigers’ four.

The second quarter saw Ethan Scheetz catch fire and put a huge lead on Hurley. He scored 19 points with three three-pointers to boot. He only scored four points in the first quarter.

By the half, the score was 37-6.

The second half saw the Cardinals decimate the Tigers on both ends of the floor. Clayton Henderson and Scheetz couldn’t be stopped, and transition layups was the story of the game.

Scheetz ended the night with 32 points and 4 three pointers. Henderson picked up 13.

Niangua faces Chadwick on the road on Wednesday, Dec. 13. Chadwick sent the Cardinals home last year in the District Champioship with a win margin of three points. Currently, Niangua sits at number five in the state for Class 1. Chadwick sits at number 6.

“It should be an exciting game,” added Copling. “We both bring back several members of last year’s team, so I’m looking forward to see how we match up.”

Clifton Stoppelman and Delila Johnson took home Homecoming King and Queen. Niangua’s staff set the gym as a dance floor, and the Cardinals danced the night away.
