Marshfield swears in new Aldermen

Posted

The Marshfield Board of Aldermen meeting said goodbye to three outgoing board members and swore in the two new elected and one appointed Aldermen at the Thursday, April 15 meeting. Alderwoman Vicki Montgomery and Alderman Mark Bowers have exited the board following the completion of their terms and Rob Foster presented the board with a letter of resignation, in which case Mayor McNish accepted.

Alderwoman Montgomery was elected on April 28, 2011 and served through April 2021, representing the West Ward for 10 years. She served on multiple committees during her decade of involvement with the city. With her term ending, Robbie Boggs was elected to replace her seat.

“Thank you for allowing me the privilege to serve you the last 10 years,” Montgomery said. “Marshfield has the BEST staff of any community! Every single employee is awesome, and greatly appreciated by me, and the board.”

Mark Bowers was elected on April 11, 2019 as East Ward Alderman. He served for two years as Tree City Advisory Committee for 18 of those months, sewer and water commissioner. With the completion of his term, J.C. Cunningham was elected to replace his seat.

“I appreciate it,” Bowers said. “It’s been a privledge.”

Rob Foster was elected April 10, 2014 as East Ward Alderman, serving for seven years. Foster served as cemetery board member for seven years, planning and zoning commission member for seven years, street commissioner for seven years and Mayor pro tem for one year.

“It sounds like a lot when you read it off and it is, I want to express a heartfelt thanks to the staff of the city,” said Foster. “Thanks also to the many elected officials I had the privilege to serve with while I was on the Board of Alderman.”

Montgomery, Bowers and Foster supported GROMarshfield, a community growth plan, a parks master plan and provided critical advice and input on the City of Marshfield policies, regulatory matters, operations and legal affairs during their time in office. The City of Marshfield acknowledged and thanked them each for their tireless efforts and work on behalf of the City of Marshfield as a member of the Marshfield Board of Alderman.

The meeting proceeded with the swearing in of the two newly elected Alderman, J.C. Cunningham and Robbie Boggs, who then joined the board at the table.

“At the time of Rob Foster’s resignation, we determined we had two people who had already invested their time and talents in order to serve in this matter,” said Mayor McNish. “I have learned that it takes a lot to put yourself out there and run for a public office. It is with that that I am asking our current board of Alderman to affirm my appointment of John Quinn to fill the remaining seat on the board for East Ward Alderman.”

Quinn then repeated the Oath of Office and took his seat with the board. McNish then appointed a Mayor pro tem for a one year term, Stacy Lee, who has previously served in the same role. The board approved the motion and moved to Mayoral Appointments, which were approved and are listed below.

Water & Sewer commissioners: Alderman Robbie Boggs and Mayor pro tem Stacy Lee
