Inaugural Market Animal Show and Sale sees success

Posted

On Saturday, June 29th, Webster County bore witness to the 1st Annual Webster County Market Animal Show and Sale. From the crack of dawn, the atmosphere was electric with anticipation as agricultural industry leaders and enthusiastic youth supporters gathered to witness a showcase of dedication and hard work.

The morning was a spectacle of meticulously groomed animals, each one a testament to the commitment of their young exhibitors. The displays were nothing short of impressive, capturing the essence of the event's spirit.

After a morning of showing by youth exhibitors, attendees enjoyed a well-deserved buyers’ lunch, setting the stage for the main event: the live auction. Bidders fervently competed for their choice animals, leading to some remarkable sales figures. Highlights of the auction included Brier Day's Champion Market Sheep fetching an impressive $4,200, while Bennett Vestal's Champion Market Hog commanded an astonishing $5,100. Lucas Alexander’s Champion Market Goat went for $475, and Hollis Day’s Champion Market Steer brought in $400. In total, the event raised $20,000, which was distributed among the youth exhibitors—talk about a successful day at the market!

The success of the event was made possible by the dedication of the organizing committee, including Ryliegh Bouldin, Hoover Case, Bruce Bradley, Justin Cron, and Blair Gann. Their efforts ensured not only a financially rewarding day for Webster County agriculture, but also an opportunity for the youth to showcase their skills and passion.

The funds raised will make a significant impact on these dedicated youth exhibitors, helping them improve their agricultural pursuits, cover feed and expenses, purchase additional animals, and even add to their college funds. This event wasn’t just about the money, though. Beyond the financial impact, the Webster County Market Animal Show and Sale aimed to instill values of work ethic and character in the young participants, fostering a deep-rooted passion for agriculture that will carry forward into the future.

Looking ahead, organizers are already gearing up for the 2025 event and invite all interested parties to reach out to the Webster County Extension Office for more information on how to get involved.

The event would not have been possible without the generous support of community sponsors for 2023, including Farm Bureau Insurance, V12 Farms, Show Me Auto Care, and many others who contributed to its success. Their support underscores the community's commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders.

For those who missed out this year, mark your calendars and join Webster County in celebrating agriculture and youth achievement at the next Market Animal Show and Sale in 2025. Details will be announced
