Happy 25th Birthday Webster County Historical Museum

Posted

Edwin Powell Hubble once said, “Past time is finite, future time is infinite.”

July 4th, 1997 was history in the making for The Webster County Historical Society. After working with the City of Marshfield, the doors of the Webster County Historical Museum opened. This July 4 will not only be 246 years since the Declaration of Independence was signed but also serve as the silver anniversary since the opening of the museum.

For 25 years, the museum has been preserving the history of surrounding Webster County. Open six days a week to the public, residents can find various articles and artifacts remembering the county's past. From Edwin P. Hubble, tornados, and World War II, it can be found on the shelves and walls of the museum. Years of volunteer work, dedication, and generous donations have kept the museum alive since its initial opening.

On July 3, the Museum hosted a celebration for volunteers, the public, and historians alike. After giving a quick history lesson about the museum, Linda Dickinson, Museum Director of the Historical Museum, wanted to do more on this 25-year anniversary.

Like a couple renewing their wedding vows Dickinson wanted this anniversary to be a re-dedication and commitment to the museum, ensuring it remains open for 25 more years and beyond. Volunteers, members of the historic society, various members of city departments, and even the mayor all gathered for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Dickinson expressed her desire and hope for the future of the Historic Museum. “My biggest concern right now is keeping the museum going and that we get volunteers for the future to keep carrying the torch”.
This task will not be easy nor will it happen overnight. If interested in volunteering at the Webster County Historical Museum, email them at webstercountyhistoricsociety@gmail.com The museum is located at 219. S. Clay, Marshfield, MO.
