Governor Parsons signed “Right to Life of the Unborn Child Act”

Posted

On Friday, June 24 the U.S. Supreme Court overturned the nearly 50-year ruling of Roe v Wade. Following the overturn, a number of states began making immediate decisions or trigger laws on the matter with Missouri being one of them.

Missouri Governor Mike Parson released to the public a proclamation on the same day to end elective abortions. The “Right to Life of the Unborn Child Act” took effect immediately. The act was a part of a bill that was passed back on May 24, 2019.

The act focuses on those who perform the abortion and not the woman themselves. It forbids doctors from performing abortions unless it is a medical emergency. Punishment for performing or inducing abortions outside of medical emergencies included having their medical license suspended or revoked. Those who break the act are also guilty of a Class B felony which carries with it jail time ranging from five to fifteen years.

Any woman who receives an illegal abortion will not be persecuted.
