Fordland clinic expands dental outreach

Recently the Fordland Clinic, located in Fordland, Missouri, received a grant from the Skaggs Foundation. The grant, which awarded $44,000 per year to the Dental Outreach program will allow the clinic to continue the outreach.

According to Liz Hendrix, dental outreach program coordination, “(the) program is in the 8th year and currently serves the Blue Eye and Reeds Spring school district.”

The Dental Outreach program focuses on providing outreach to underserved areas in the region. “We do not collaborate with Jordan Valley,” Hendrix responded when asked how the two different organizations work together to provide dental outreach. “We try to focus on the areas they do not see.”

The program offers free services to students. “There is no charge to any student. We do bill insurance if they have it and if not, it’s covered by the grant,” explained Hendrix. Services offered include oral health education, dental exams, x-rays, cleaning, sealants and fluoride treatment and referrals for restorative services.

“We are already planning to see the students of Blue Eye on February 13 in their school,” shared Hendrix. “We now have a mobile van with dental equipment inside (from a separate grant) and plan to continue our school outreach by starting a year round program where we can park our van outside of the schools and see students…”
