Doing’s honest work at Chillicothe cattle show

The Chillicothe Winter Preview Show, held at the Livingston County Fairgrounds, excitingly uncovered an up and coming cattle showman from Webster county.

Maysen Doing, a Conway native and high school sophomore, turned heads with her determination and impressive herd on Dec. 12. The young showman placed 1st overall with her Crossbred heifer and 3rd with her Chianina heifer.

Doing purchased the two heifers in August to show in the Missouri Club Calf Association Jackpot Series. Evidently, her hard work has paid off, the young bovine handler was ecstatic about the competition’s results.

“To be honest, I was not expecting that much out of them,” explained Doing. “I was expecting my crossbreed to do well, but I did not expect her to win her class. She ended up taking me to the final drive.”

Doing has a history of showing market hogs and steers at the Laclede County Fair. In fact, she can recall showing livestock as early as four-years-old. With strong ties to her own family farm, it is to no surprise that Doing’s efforts have become a family affair.

“It became a family deal,” shared Doing. “Showing steers has become a way of bonding for my family. I figured getting into the competitive side would be even more fun”

As she prepares for future shows in the spring of ‘22, Doing is optimistic that her determination will show inside and outside the ring.

“It doesn’t matter what you show up with, trailer wise or clothes, it matters what you bring out of the trailer and how much work you put into them,” said Doing.
