County conservation agent busts illegal fishermen

Posted

In two separate but similar investigations, Webster County Cpl. Andrew Feistel contacted several individuals who were illegally fishing on Panther Creek.

Three people were cited for fishing without permits, possession of over limit of non-game fish, and the take game fish by illegal methods.

Likewise, McDonald County Cpl. Adam Strader contacted several individuals who were in possession of a gross over-limit of bait fish on the Elk River. Four people were cited for possession of the over-limit, which was more than twice the daily limit allowed. The fish in the cooler is four limits worth, the remaining fish in the bucket are the over-limit.

Establishing legal methods and daily limits of fish is critical in protecting and maintaining fish populations. Illegal or over harvest, especially of bait fish, can threaten local fish populations, reproduction success, and growth rates in fish.

To report wildlife violations, please contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-392-1111 or your local conservation agent.
