When looking for a giving community, Marshfield must be near the top of the list. Volunteers keep this community humming, helping provide the quality of life we've come to enjoy. T
hese same tireless individuals have worked to reignite the tradition of a Veteran’s Day celebration after a five decade or more hiatus. As good generally begets good, the brethren of Webster #98 began to ask themselves a few questions, “Could we feed them all ahead of the parade? Could the veterans be fed for free?”
While not overrun with available funds, several officers decided to make it a reality. Junior Warden Matt Guy, himself a Veteran of the United States Army led the charge, “I don't think there is one person who we asked that has refused to help, the response has been very generous.”
Current donors are: Zimmerman’s Meats, Sheila’s, Price Cutter, Penny Pincher’s, Jim Totten with Performance Foodservice and Strafford Lodge #608 for a generous cash donation. The pulled pork is being prepared by Doug Cron. It was also decided that net funds be sent to the “Honor Flight of the Ozarks” via the Masonic home where they will be tripled.
A picnic atmosphere encouraged
The event kicks off at 11 am with an invocation on the lodge steps, the brethren will serve until 2 pm and probably a little longer so everyone gets a chance to eat. Dine in and take out options will be available. Weather permitting, attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and make use of the grounds, which will be an excellent place to view the parade and visit. At 1:30 all veterans are invited to participate in a group photo to be taken via drone along Washington Street in front of the lodge. This will be the first group photo of veterans taken in some time, with many speculating there hasn't been one since the end of World War II or before.
