Headed to the Courts (Fordland)

Posted

Winter Sports is fast approaching and with that comes perhaps one of the most anticipated Basketball. That said, we reached out to the coaches in the Webster County area and asked them about the upcoming season.

Speaking for the Fordland Eagles Boys' Basketball is Coach John Vickers and Girls' Basketball is Coach Kevin McDaris.

What are your goals for the season?

Vickers: Our goal is to establish team chemistry and consistency in learning a new system and style of play.We only have one returning varsity letterman, Logan Swanson. The rest of our roster played JV, C team, and JH last year.  It will take a while for us to establish as players and coaches are new and getting familiar with each other. We want to improve each week and play our best Basketball in February.

McDaris: We return every varsity player from last year. We finished at 12-15 last season. We have a very experienced team this year, so we expect to be very competitive this season. We need to continue to improve on both ends of the floor. If we can do this, we can compete for a conference and district championship.

What are you looking forward to during the season?

Vickers: I look forward to helping a young and inexperienced team navigate the season in a tough conference. It's rewarding to experience development and growth in developing a team throughout the season.

McDaris: We have been a very young team the past two seasons. Finally, this season, we have some experience.

What do you enjoy most about coaching?

Vickers: I enjoy the relationships formed through the ups and downs of a season and watching the growth and development of players getting better on and off the floor as players and as people.

McDaris: I enjoy teaching the game and watching players develop on and off the court over the years.

Who are some players to look out for, and why?

Vickers: Logan Swanson - Sr. - is our only varsity letter-winner player. Logan is a quick, athletic guard who has good ball-handling skills and is a good passer. As he started on last year's team, he has the most experience of our players. We are looking for senior leadership from Logan on both ends of the floor.

McDaris: Emma Trotter jr - She has been our leading scorer for the past two seasons. Last season she earned 1st all-district and 1st team all-conference. She is a speedy, athletic point guard who can get to the basket. She has worked hard on becoming a better shooter this season.

Kenzie Haskins so - Kenzie is our best shooter. Last year she shot 33% from the 3-pt line.

Mikah Suter sr - She is our best rebounder and team leader. She can play inside and on the perimeter.

We, citizens of Webster County, look forward to what the season brings to these teams.
