Posted

This Halloween there is no limit of activities to keep anyone from ages 5 to 55 busy. Among the various Trunk-or-Treats hosted throughout the area, trick-or-treat the Marshfield Square and several spooky houses there are also several Haunted Houses to partake in right here in Webster County.

The first two stops on the list are located right in the middle of Marshfield.

As per tradition the Marshfield Square will be hosting their annual “trick-or-treat the square” on October 31 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. but if you want to get a little spooky all you have to do is venture just off the square down East Washington to the Laughing Dragon where you’ll find their 2nd Annual Haunted House. “Last year we decided we wanted to do something more fun. We set up a kid friendly mini haunted house through our business…we like to have fun and it seems like more fun than just handing out candy,” shared Melissa Mall one of the owners at the Laughing Dragon. “It is more spooky than scary, it’s definitely appropriate for children.”

For the first time the Marshfield Community Center, located at 110 E. Commercial Street is hosting a Monster Mash Boo Bash. There will be the usual candy, bounce houses and skating that you can expect from a MCC event, however this event will also feature a “spooky hallway” and “fright tour”. “This event issuing organized for the community to provide a fun, safe and convenient central location for children and individuals and families to trick-or-treat,” shared Melanie Fraker. “We’re really excited to offer a new, scare haunted house activity to Marshfield. Several MCT haunted house veterans have planned and organized this smaller event to benefit both Marshfield Community Center and Marshfield Community Theatre,” shared Crystal Hilton organizer of Fright Tour. “The basement is incredibly spooky as it is, take away the light and add in some really talented scarers and it’s gonna give you chills.” The Fright Tour is recommended for older kids (suggested age is 10) and adults; while the spooky hallway is geared for younger kids. If being scared isn’t your thing, Hilton is still looking for volunteers, you can text her at 417-380-1124. The spooky hallway and haunted tour will be open October 29 and 31 from 5:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and the Monster Mash Boo Bash will be Halloween only from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

If you are looking for more scares, then grab your friends and your car keys and head out to Niangua. For the second year in a row the Niangua FBLA is hosting their annual Haunted House fundraiser. “The haunted house is open the 27, 28, and 29. It will start at 6:00 p.m. each night however on the 28 we will run a “no scare” from 5:30-6:00 p.m.,” shared Jennifer Callaway, FBLA sponsor. The cost for this haunted house is only $5 per person. The theme for this years haunted house is Haunted Disney.

The last stop on our Haunted Halloween tour takes us to Conway, MO where you’ll find “The Boo Man” at Boyd’s Boo House. Located at 410 W. Jefferson Ave. in Conway the Boo House has been running for (insert year). “It was a rental I had been renting for years and got tore up. It was Halloween when I went down to fix it. I just put on a mask…it kind of happened by accident,” shared Allen Boyd aka “The Boo Man”. The house the haunted house runs out of is 100 years old. Boyd works on the haunted house year round to ensure folks get a good scare. “I try to change it up ‘cause I hear a lot of people get tired of other big haunts that just go same thing every year,” shared Boyd. This haunt is scary and Boyd recommends to know your kids however he recommends 10 and up. “We are coming after ya,” shared “The Boo Man”.
